Self-Custody Without Anxiety | Bitkey x Bitcoin Advisory
Self-custody shouldn't
make you anxious.
If securing your Bitcoin stresses you out, you're doing it wrong.
The journey most people go through:
Buy Bitcoin on an exchange.
Feel goodLearn about FTX, Celsius, Mt. Gox.
Feel terrifiedMove everything to a hardware wallet.
Feel smartRealize your entire financial future depends on 12 words written on a piece of paper.
Feel anxious all over againThe seed phrase problem
You wrote it on paper. Paper burns.
You stamped it on metal. Metal can be stolen.
You split it between locations. Now you need to remember where.
You put it in a safe. What if you die and nobody knows the combination?
You solved one problem and created five new ones.
The paranoia tax
Some people check on their seed phrase like it's a newborn.
Others can't go on holiday without worrying.
Some won't tell anyone it exists. If something happens to them, their family gets nothing.
This isn't security. It's stress disguised as responsibility.
Why does securing your money have to be a full-time job?
Self-custody should give you more control, not more anxiety.
The single point of failure
If any of those fail, your Bitcoin is gone.
That's not a security system. That's a single point of failure with extra steps.
The fix: multisig
Instead of one key that does everything, use three keys and need any two to move Bitcoin.
Need 2 of 3 to move your Bitcoin
Lose your phone? Two keys remain.
Lose the hardware? Two keys remain.
No single failure can touch your funds.
The part most people miss:
The company holding your third key can't do anything with it alone.
They need your permission. They literally cannot move your Bitcoin without you.
That's not trusting a company. That's using a safety net.
What it should feel like
No checking on seed phrases.
No paranoia about house fires.
No single device that keeps you up at night.
You own your money, and it doesn't own your peace of mind.

“Self-custody means controlling your Bitcoin, not being controlled by the fear of losing it.”
